Want to cross these bridges
To get the best view
To watch them all burn
The ash and smell of smoke
Will be what I have to show
For where I’ve been
What I have survived
The wisps of charred gray
Weaving into the fibers
Of my heavy black coat
Stitched in tightly
I have run through Hell
I’m the one who set it ablaze
I conquered and overcame
And all that lies behind me
Can burn without me
She left in a hurry.
A rush of endless wander.
In a heap of beauty
When I needed her the most.
She let me go
As I let her slip through my fingers.
We promised..
Friends forever.
But our bridges went to flames,
Turned to ashes.
And we went our separate ways.
We burnt bridges.
And built new ones.
I wish my heart had more in common with my hands.
I am clumsy with both, true, but I find it so easy to let things go
with my hands that I sometimes drop everything without meaning to
whereas my heart…my heart doesn’t know how to let go of anything.
So many years have passed and I am still holding on to you as though we did not agree to go our separate ways. I have so much to learn about how to love.
